Cavtat (pronounced TSAV-tat) is a town on the Adriatic Coast southeast of Dubrovnik about 40 min drive from Herceg Novi or 30min drive from Dubrovnik Old Town.
The landscape and colors in this picture represent and evoke the good vibes I feel as I watch the fascinating panorama of the old town of Cavtat.
The town was founded by the Greeks in the fourth century BC under the name of Epidauros and changed its name to Epidaurum when it came under Roman rule in 228 BC. The city was sacked and destroyed by the Avars and Slavs in the 7th century. Refugees from Epidaurum fled to the nearby island, Laus (Ragusa) which over time evolved into the city of Dubrovnik. The city name reveals the ancient origin and the link with Dubrovnik: Cavtat is derived from Civitas Vetus, the name by which the Ragusans called their old city.
I enjoy the same panorama that the ancient Greeks enjoyed more than 2000 years ago. Ok the buildings are newer but the nature is the same. The taste doesn't seem to have changed much since then.
The painting comes in a limited series of only 50 prints. Each print is hand-signed numbered and it includes a certificate of authenticity.
The artwork is using a 1.5" deep gallery wrap and it is not framed.
